Sticks in Pots.
Sticks in Pots.
Smalling inside herself
she forgets that she can’t
remember and asks again
to little point, her name is a place
in France and while she searches
for things that no longer exist
her son plots her murder,
still drawn to flowers, her memory
tends as she advances the only Autumn
she can, pulling off Petals and cutting
stems down to similar heights before
watering and watching these sticks in pots,
clinging on
by the backs of her fingernails
I think she died some time ago
and left herself behind.

Dear saxonshadow,
Wow! This was quite a piece! The title had me drawn in instantly. I am intrigued by this poem saxonshadow. Please, share your inspiration / motivation for this. Why was her son plotting her murder? I love the significance of the "sticks in pots", and reference back to the title. Well done artist.

Hi, Painted, and a big thank you for responding, this piece (while needing more work) is not as abstract as it may look, if I said alzheimers or dementia I think you would see much more, I am thinking that I need to make my topic more clear in my opening lines, thank you for showing me that, ty again, Painted, Padrik.

Hey SAXONSHADOW - I reiterate KIM's "Wow!" - Reading your inspiration for penning this piece... It makes more sense - My GreatGrandma Sadie suffered from Alzheimers - I can totally relate to this piece, as it seems like the one you speak of forgot about herself...
Sad piece - Poignant piece actually!
One thing though - I think the significance of "sticks in pots" escapes me. I actually have always wanted a pot with sticks - so to speak... I've always loved bamboo and I saw the most beautiful urn (i think it was a wicker urn) and thought that it would be fabulous to have that urn with bamboo sticks and leaves in it. I think it would represent undying strength.
At anyrate - I enjoyed this read very much - Thanx for sharing it!

Hi Jacquii, and apologies for taking so long to respond to your kind comment which I am most gratefull for ;-) in your reply you mentioned my use of ''sticks in pots'' while this may not have worked my intention was several fold, I will attempt to expalin lol, initially flower stems all cut down to one length (the sort of ritualistic repeditive action I had observed) and also a strange 'order' ie. the fight to keep everything in order in their minds, hope you follow ;-) guess if I have to explain it I should re-work it lol ty again, Sax.
I have read this over a few times and I must say, it would be well worth the effort to strenghten it up a little, I think it might need a bit more body. anyway, well done all the same. very sad but really nice writing.
This seems to be a very sad and lonely woman who is losing her mind. And on top of all that has a son who is plotting her murder. She also love's plants and pots. But maybe just does not have that green thumb anymore? I thought that to die and leave one's self behind would be a sad thing. At any rate...Good reading you.
