A View to a Kill

usually, the clapping of the thunder
and the pitter-patter of the rain
lulls me into a deeper sleep

what i remember is waking to the
rolling thunder and the cracking lightning
the darkness of the room
lit the night's womb
and it was all very frightning

From my window i could see the walk below
was i dreaming!
i do not know
but there, was a white man standing
looking up at me
expecting me to be there

I could not hear him
with natural ears
but what he said
moved me to fear

"Welcome, to the desert, of the real"

it appeared
that there was a veil
covering my perception
now my sight
was clear to see
the evil nature of men
and without doubt
the devils within

i fought the urge
that this might be
a trick of the eye
but what i saw
was clearly plain
and though i fought belief
i could not deny

my weapon was near
slightly subsiding my fear
but the banging, the banging
at my door i wished i did not hear

sliding shot to chamber
i made ready...

for a moment, i wished
i could reason with these beasts
but savage beasts will not listen
which rose me to anger
that i would be roused from sleep

for reasons unknown
by the banging, the banging on the door of my home
how many shots will i shoot
before these beasts be gone?

i knew at the moment of breach
the intent of these wildy wicked beasts
as they charged to my room
the sound of their boots
reminded me of the sound of death knells
i prayed my end would come soon
but not before i took a few as well

the lightning outside flashed and cracked
and in the room
there too was
the flash and fire and the boom of violence
and as quickly as it began
it ended
and there was silence

and as i sat in the corner
drenched in blood not my own...
i wondered...
had i killed the beasts
all the beasts
who banged, who banged on the door
of my home

i called to my wife
to gather the children
but she did not respond
i called again, and again
but she did not respond

it wasnt until the lightning flashed
was my eyes opened
the body of my wife and my children
lay lifeless
and my gun still smoking

it appeared the bodies of the beasts
were not beasts at all
but my loving family
i killed them all

what would drive me
to do such a thing
i asked and asked
but no answer came
so before i could be
taken into custody
and asked by authorities
i thereupon asked for forgiveness
before lodging the last bullet
into my own brain

My goodness! Talk about an emotional roller-coaster! Whew...devils within, huh? It almost makes me wonder if "devils" are able to enter our "dream state" and take over our minds, when I read something like this...this would be on the news as one of those "mystery" murder/suicide, with no one knowing what was going through the mind of the killer.

Very captivating, energetic, and shocking read...as usual, you grip the soul of the reader from the first line...and lead them down the road to perdition with this one! Awesome!! (5 star rating!!)

Nomad

p.s. I know most males do not agree, but this sort of scene reinforces my belief that guns inside a home do more harm than good.

yeah.., i am a gun freak!!! when i say freak.., i mean it..... but my military experience trained me to respect guns and weapons...

as far as guns in the home.... , i think they are as necessary as food and water...., its just sad though when folks snap and do stupid shit to their loved ones with them...

dude,

that was a trip from beginning to end. i thought it was a reflective/waken nightmare, but the end really freaked me out. not sure where that come from, but wherever it was, it was dark....very dark. still have a sick feeling from it...must mean it was well done.
