    A MOTHER AND A CHILD

TODAY I CHANCED TO SEE A CHILD,
PUT ITS HAND TO ITS MOTHER`S FACE,
AND MY MIND COULD FEEL THE SOFT WARM TOUCH,
    OF ANOTHER TIME AND PLACE.

I SAT FOR AWHILE AND WATCHED THEM,
AS THEY SHARED THEIR LOVE AND JOY,
IT TOOK ME BACK TO THE TIME OF MY YOUTH,
WHEN I WAS A LITTLE BOY.

AS THIS MOTHER SMILED, YOU SMILED AT ME,
    I RESPONDED WITH A SQUEEZE,
THEN YOU CRADLED ME IN YOUR TENDER ARMS,
AND PUT MY HEART AT EASE.

I CAN STILL RECALL HOW THE ROCKING CHAIR SQUEAKED,
AS YOU ROCKED AND SANG ME A SONG,
CONTENTED AND HAPPY, MY EYELIDS GREW HEAVY,
AS MY HEART WAS SINGING ALONG.

I WATCHED THIS CHILD AND I WANTED TO BE,
    BACK IN YOUR ARMS AGAIN,
RELIVING THE DAYS THAT CAN NO LONGER BE,
SINCE I'VE GROWN FROM BOYHOOD TO MAN.

    Dear Ron,

I love this concept, as it filled my heart with joy. The picture it paints is warm, and the longing can be felt. I too, often wish to to back in my Mother's arms. Those two stanzas, especially put a smile on my face as they brought back joyous memories of my Mother. Thank you for writing this, as I really needed to read such a poem. Made me a little misty as well. Thanks Ron for what you do best. Loved it!

    PaintedDiary,

Thank you for your comments regarding this poem. As I said in an earlier response today, as a child I was a big disappointment to my mother and she loved me still. Even into adult hood, I think I gave her some very disapponting moments. As she aged she was, in my mind, a bit unusual as some Octogenerains will be and I was not always as accomodating as I should have been. For these reasons I have many regrets about my relationship with my mother. It was always a good one, but I realize it was her efforts and not mine that made it so. again, thanks....... geezzzzzze......... really laying it out there today. kinda like I am laying on the couch and you are setting there taking notes. Ha.
    Ron
