An ABECEDARIUM (also known and refered to as the Abecedarian) is a poem having words or stanzas beginning with successive letters of the alphabet. The most common examples are seen as didactic poetry for juveniles of the "A is for Apple" variety, but a skilled poet can create a much more demanding and adult work while pursuing the strictures of this form.

    Example 1:

    A is for Angels
    B is for Benefactors
    C is for Contributers
    Example 2 by Jacquii Cooke

    Another day in paradise,
    Beauty never escaping.
    Capitulated - o' did I,
    Daring, yet never emancipated...
