Every time I hear that song they play

I think of dreams we never had

    Turn your pretty head~walk away

Green eyes shining, so much to say

Think of the moments we were bad

Every time I hear that song they play

Concert we saw will always stay

"Free Bird," the best moment we said

    Turn your pretty head~walk away

So full of life, dark held at bay

    The accident so very sad

Every time I hear that song they play

Oft I wonder about your day

Was I no more than passing fad?

    Turn your pretty head~walk away

I try to figure out the way

I could have been your golden lad

Every time I hear that song they play

    Turn your pretty head~walk away

    Dear Kit :giftrose:,

Wow, this was a lovely memory and a confessional Villanelle of sorts. How beautiful reminiscing can be, and never really know sometimes where it can lead in our minds, then to our canvas of words. I felt this one, and I sat back in my chair and tried to picture her, and possibly what could have been. Can relate to this one. One for the Affective Domain for sure! The introductory stanza set the tone, and the story just melted in place. Thank you for sharing this with us Kit.

Thank you. Yes things are so real in high school. She sort of rescued from darkness, but I couldn't rescue her. Obviously much left unsaid here. :) I posted a poem to her on my site and it fell flat. I found it was very mixed up. I found three in my book, two of them with same title. Used them to help create this. She is the reason I joined ROTC (to be near her) And then she walked away, not from me, her life. I might not have joined the Navy if not for her. That would be different path...wow. On and on it goes.

Yeah, Phil and Don both went to West High in Knoxville Tennessee. In the 1950's, of course. There's not even a plaque or anything. Thanks, but I ripped that off of Joe Walsh. I don't think he would be mad though. I think of her when I hear Joe sing that song. Thanks Jerry! You clown! LOL! I'm a little dense today!
