    Crickets

    I hear the hypnotic waves,

    The persistence, the shrill

Overtone, the circular rhythm of one species overlapping

Another; I go to sleep each night in the dense thicket of their song—

    Eternally redundant—

Tomorrow I will wake to find a cricket baking on my

    Driveway in the sun,

My house is near a field and I have many spiders burrowing their webs

In window wells, hundreds of cocoons and massive webs,

Once I saw the empty shell of a cricket, hanging there,

The innards slurped out by a hungry spider.

Mostly I am afraid to go beyond a certain point that obstructs me

Like a boundary or a barrier of sound.

For how many ages have the crickets sung in the fields?

The overlap is ingenious, the chorus ambitious,

I can see them now between the dark wheat blades,

Humming against the soil, the dew of night

    Glistening on their black armor.

My brain calms to hear the stream of insects,

    I dream of strong-legged crickets,

My first conversation was with a cricket

And that was just a moment ago,

This pulse, this present is eluding me,

And alluding to me, again and again

In the voice of a cricket.

crickets. This was delightful, thanks for sharing :)

    Dear Chris,

I really love this as I look forward to your work anyway. The visuals are amazing. The metaphors, messages, and thought provoking words. I love the inclusion of how the cricket and its behavior and etc. (great choice as it is novel and unique) is used and of value in your life :bravo:. Very unique. I love when artist scribe or visually express the odd, unusual, not really thought about, or possibly what we take for granted. Awesome!

    Kimberly :)
