An EPITAPH is a commemorative poem inscribed on a tombstone or mortuary monument written in praise of a deceased person. Generally an epitaphs are small poems with rhyming lines written in reflection of the deceased persons life. Not always somber though, some epitaphs are very humorous and quite witty, as seen in example 1 below.

    Example 1 by Unknown Author:

    I was born
    Then I wed
    Nagging Wife
    Now I'm dead!

    Example 2 by Jacquii Cooke

Now I lay me down to sleep
From a world neither hopeful, nor meek
And when I arise from sleeping slumber
    You'll wish I was never under :p
