    I Saw You

I saw you as you were swimming in the creek –
searching, squabbling, diving for whatever morsel
you found beneath the surface of our watercourse, all alone –
    my stomach rumbled.
I watched from the banks as you foraged
and slaked your thirst, unaware of my presence,
my scent – my hunger. Our eyes met and you took flight –
    I took aim….
Was it the snap of a twig or a momentary shift of the wind
that betrayed me? What did you sense
when our eyes met, could you see into my soul?
    Could you feel my hunger?
Looking into your eyes I saw the angst, anger and fear
borne from the law of the jungle, where only the strong
(and fast) survive – a place where you were neither.
I gaze at you as foam spews over the lip of my flagon.
You, draped across my table amid the Torgiano,
the wedge of Toscanello and a round of pumpernickel –
    savoring the moment.
These things I wondered as I stoked the supper fire –

:wow: Lasher you have made SUCH an intimate connection with your prey...this is really different and almost seems a little regretful in the taking of the life! I love the concept and it reveals a deep connection with everything around you.

    Fantastic write! :respect:

    Dear lasher,

This was a novel write, unlike anything I have read before. To scribe of the relationship with your prey very descriptively was very unique, and done in a oh so poetic way, that one can almost get lost in the main concept. Exceptional write poet!!!

Nomad, thank you for reading and replying. I do sympathize with wildlife, (I love nature), but I won't be a hypocrite - I do love a good steak!! I'll just leave the killing for other people, it doesn't work for me. Thanx again.....
