The bright light stunned her tender face
    and glistened off her hair
as she raised her hand up to her brow
    and shaded deep blue eyes.

    Her trembling body backed away
    from laughter in the air
and I could sense from where she stood
    emotions running high.

Just one of many who had come
    and gone among the rows
of tables touching end to end
with those who lie in wait...

To hear the first word tumble through
    lips that surely know,
all now is naked to the mass
    of those who love mistakes.

    It's then mighty adrenaline
    burst to her fingertips
as she wrapped them tight around
    the cylinder of truth.

With open mouth, full breath of air
    her journey from within
    resounded off the walls
until it's notes had touched the roof.

    All silent was the multitude
of those who had been loud.
    All eyes adorned this creature
who had stepped into our midst.

    With humbleness of posture
    yet voice that bellowed proud,
    she held all the attention
    until the last note dripped.

To my feet I stood among
    the many who were there.
We cheered and roared and gave her all
    the love within our hands...

Then settled down to talk about
    what had happened here.
    How anyone who followed her
would have to feel quite bad.

And that is when it happened,
    I remembered what I'd done.
    Deep inside I could feel
    this awful, piercing pain.

    My head upon the table,
    wishing I could run...
    If you haven't guessed it,
    the D.J. called MY NAME!

LOL! Sheri! I got so into the picture you were painting here that I didn't even notice if you had any technical problems with it or not! So I had to go back and read it again, and nope, this work is absolutely brilliant and flawless! I sure would like to know though - how did your turn go?!!

]Thank you all so much for your replies. I read it over and over befor submitting it. Even then, I was sure I'd missed some error somewhere. Glad you all didn't find any...wheeeew.
Actually, I spent most of my life singing in a country\ blues band and very much enjoyed being on stage. Karaoke is quite different though. You only have one key and it can only be raised or lowerd half a key. If you pick a song you 'think' you can sing and find out when you're standing there that the key is just too far out for you, tough luck, you're stuck, lol. I just know how it feels inside to be in the lights and have to sing something either you've never sung before or the key is wrong for you. It's like heat coming up your neck and you think you might throw up. I never did throw up though....smile. Once when out with friends, they played a joke on me. My name was called when I hadn't put it in. I went up anyway to see who did put my name in and what song they'd picked. My friends were all laughing when I found it was 'Great Balls of Fire'. I showed them though. I think I'd had just enough to drink to pull it off so I did it as funny and goofy as I could and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Haha, I put my friends name in next and the song 'I'm too sexy for my shirt' but niether she nor her husband would get up and do it.......Ahhh, one for me!
