Derived from the Spanish word for question, the PREGUNTA style of poetry is a question-answer dialogue between two individual voices or two individual poets within the pregunta poem.

There is no set number of stanzas or rhyme scheme in this type of poem.

Example 1 by Jacquii Cooke & Hugh Stewart:

excerpt from Where I Lie With You (but why wait?)

    because i love you,
    i hope you can wait.

But I'm tired baby. What is
This illusive thing you call love?
Let's do the damn thang. Why wait?

    because i love you,
i hope you can see past
    the bravado and my pain
i dream you can touch the softness
    that lies beneath
    my polished exterior.

But Baby, my interior is hungry.
My every thought of you just
Seems to ravish my insides; I cry
At night, not knowing where you reside,
I need you exquisitely like the gleam that lies in your eye
When you glance upon my very being - Babyboy...
    Why wait for you? Why?

    Example 2 by Jan Haag:

    excerpt from PREGUNTA

    Are you afraid of death?
Only of too deep a breath.

    Are you afraid of life?
    Only man's eternal strife.

    Are you afraid of travel?
    Only the need for arrival.

    Are you afraid of hurt?
Only that I will lose my shirt.
