Dear poetic community, please share why you write poetry, stories, and etc. We know WE ALL LOVE IT, but WHY do you really write, and be specific. Does it mean something special, do you accomplish something, etc.:meeting:

Poetry for me is a release of tension kinda - It's a way for me to say what I normally wouldn't make known... Well that's aside from the fact that I just love the idea of being a poet & offering some creative. Poetry is just another way of expression to me. It allows me to be me & unapologetically ME. Ya know?

But really - just the idea of releasing pent up tensions and frustrations, while being creative at the same time & offering some kinda positive contribution to society is its own reward really.

Hope that makes sense ;) -------> What about YAWL - Why do you write?

    Jacquii.

I always loved writing at school and kept the love affair going throughout my adult life. Its nice when others are positive about your writing but I really just write for myself. Is that selfish, do you think?:bad:

At this point everything has been already said but....

I know that I started writing at an early age because I didn't feel I had anyone to talk to or someone to listen to how I was feeling. :boohoo:

Later, I began to write as a way to vent, express, and a way to escape for a moment from my present situations and just write, relax and be at peace. :drinks:

Now I write to challenge myself, be creative, try new styles and just because it makes me happy and it represents the many faces of "V" :curtsey:

I write because something writes me.
I write because it is a need worse than
    any addiction. It is a passion, a calling;
words to share. Lifetimes begging notice.
You can equate my mind to a field
of freshly fallen snow. Each footprint
in the snow is a thought. Most often
when I write...... there are NO footprints
    in the snow........

I write poetry only when i'm feeling a really deep, raw emotion. This is usually when i'm depressed or really angry or sad. I write to get my emotions out. I write to show other people how i feel, and to share my experiences with people. I write because it helps to relieve the pain i feel, so i don't turn to more brutal methods of pain relief. I write because it helps me to move on.

although the why poetry has been quite fuzzy after some horrendously vile recent actions one of which is not being included in a chapbook of a place i'd been for over ayear, i must've gave them 8 poems and not one of them,
so I write poetry basically because I'm no good at stories, and my desir efor writing poetry has grown over the years thats why it kills me when something happens thats against my writing,
I actually spend allot of time on my poetry now sometimes most of the day,
it rewarding when its just to yourself enough, when I send it to you guys it becomes fun too

Poetry is a journey into my deepest self. Underneath all the pretenses, all the fears, all the doubts, there's someone waiting to be let out. In every word of every poem, that someone can take a peek into the real world and be glimpsed in turn.
Poetry is a journey to heal my deepest self. Everybody has their own scars to cover up or bear to the world with bravery. Poetry is the result of my mixed longings; a longing to heal, and a longing to hide and forget.
Poetry is my irrepressible love of life, with all it's good and bad, refusing to be hidden behind scars... Poetry is the layer by layer baring of my soul.

    Smiles!,

    That was deep, Serenity.

Me, I find that writing keeps the demons at bay. (not my kids, the demons in my head).

    Great replies!

I write a lot when I am feeling low. Writing it out clarifies my thoughts. This kind of writing very seldom makes it's way into my poetry simply because I don't want to depress anyone else. My misery does not love company.
Poetry, I write to lift my own spirits - if it does, then I share it. There is nothing I love more than to make people smile.

Ha I was just talking about this the other day on here....Ok here's the break down I used to write poetry because I rapped and thought it would be easy to just put some rhymes together then I used writing as a way to vent out my emotions....Then and currently I ended up writing merely mostly for myself as selfish as it may sound I write to see my thoughts illustrated.....When I do write for people to see it is usually a poem like "Syssta Circle" or "Black Struggle" things that speak so loudly on topics that are often recurring in our society and don't get resolved but I'm not gonna go int othat or i'll end up posting the rest of this page but yeah I write to illustrate what goes through my mind at all times
