Poets: This little project is designed to find out how many people understand the metaphor of this poem. Just who is Romeo? Comments please

    Romeo

    He roams about in Fairyland
    where humans may not go
and just so you can understand,
    I will explain it slow.

The air is filled with floating mist
    of multicolored hues;
    whirling shades of amethyst
    with alternating blues.

All colors come in countless shades,
    each shade a meaning holds.
Deciphered it pays off in spades,
    if not, it then withholds.

Around each rock, each shrub, each tree,
    everything large and small,
    an aromatic cloud there be,
    slow twirling ‘round them all.

The tongues of misty billowed cloud,
    encrypted information
and as he roams he is endowed
    with much anticipation.

Throughout it all he has strong ties
    to his enchanted home.
Beside the flagstone hearth he lies,
    ‘till time again to roam.

Dear Sartor: YES!! I found it!! WOW!! Lovely!! If you have written this poem, you are certainly qualified to be called a gifted, TALENTED POET, Sartor. It´s music to my ears, sweetheart. "Romeo, Romeo..." is the ideal gentleman for every lady: the man to fulfill a lady´s dreams. However, there aren´t too many Romeos nowadays. At least, I haven´t found any yet, quite like the description of Romeo in Shakespeare´s Plays. Where is him?? I wonder...Thank you for sharing this wonderful poem!! God bless you, Sartor!! Sincerely, Stardust.:sign_thanks:

Hi Sartor: Well, I am not too sure about getting the metaphor right out of the Poet´s mind. Perhaps, the line "he roams...", is leading the reader to feel that Romeo is an animal, maybe a cat, which is roaming in the forest or other place in Mother Nature. It is difficult for me to understand a metaphor so clearly. Each Poet develops a way of writing Poetry in different ways. I just can´t read people´s mind. It would be nice, if you tell me who Romeo is!! I´ll be looking forward to hearing from you, dear Sartor. Happy New Year 2007 with all your loved ones!! Hugs. Sincerely, Stardust.:word_hello: :bye:

:partytime: As far as I'm concerned he is a figment of ones imagination. I am Romeo at times and at others I'm not. This is one beautiful work however

Yes - very nice poem SARTOR ----> the vividry is abundant and paints a nice picture - but I'm not sure if I can answer your question appropriately... I will try however...

But - perhaps Romeo is a worm? LOL

The metaphor in the last stanza about being beside the flagstone leads me to think that as he "roams" seeing things that humans cannot... Perhaps Romeo is a catepillar?

Not quite understanding the symblance of the "cloud" But the following line:
The tongues of misty billowed cloud ----> Perhaps Romeo is a snake?

Anyway interesting poem - so tell us Sir - what is Romeo ;)

    Jacquii.

My first three thoughts were a vampire, the devil, or an angel of death.

Dear Sartor: Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful Poem and a Work of Art!! So, you are ROMEO. GOOD!! I am glad to meet the first Romeo in my lifetime. I haven´t met any yet. Not too many men are Romeos, nowadays. Men are usually mean, and rude or abusive towards women. At least, this has been my sad experience with men. Happy New Year, Sartor!! Hugs. Sincerely, Stardust.:yayjpic:

Stardust......All will be explained in due time as to who or what the metaphor refers to. It has always interested me in what people see in my poetry. Often I place small metaphors here and there just to see if it is picked up on or not.

Ron......A figment eh? Probably not a bad guess but hidden in the lines of the poem is a definite clue which make the other metaphors become realistic.

Jacquii.......A worm, a caterpillar, a snake.....at least they are things one can touch feel and even (shiver) eat, rather then being Ron's figment of ones imagination. You have actually spent some time on this methinks and I will explain it in detail with the coming of the new year 2007. Hopefully you will be in awe of how the metaphors all fall into place.

Painted........Vampire, Devil, Angel of Death........yes, I have written poems of all of those, but Romeo is not one of them. Can you bear to wait just a couple of days for my interpretation of the metaphor? I believe you will not be disappointed.

Stardust........hang with me a few days and all will be explained.

Erik......thank you for your kind words.

As I had hoped this poem has generated some great responses. Thank you Poets for your remarks and comments. With the coming of the new year I shall return and explain this poem in detail. The poem Romeo and another posted poem, If I Should Die, were two little projects designed for me to get some feedback on metaphors in my writing. I believe a metaphor that is too vague, so far out that no one knows what in the world you are talking about is to be avoided. I also believe a metaphor should not be so simple that it requires no thought to realize its meaning. I think somewhere in each poem should be a clue to the reader for understanding the meaning intended by the author. I wish you all a Happy New Year, so until we meet again, I bid a fond adieu.

I think, Romeo is Sartor´s cat. I can tell, because I live with 6 cats now. I used to live with 10 cats, some of my cats passed away of an old age. I am also in charge of an ANIMAL SHELTER FOR HOMELESS FERAL or STRAY CATS. The Suspense of this Story is Killing Me too!!...Who is Romeo, Sartor??...Let us know, please!! Hugs. Starry.:hearts:

You may be right starry, but Sartor's last lines:

"Throughout it all he has strong ties
    to his enchanted home.
Beside the flagstone hearth he lies,
    ‘till time again to roam."

Strong ties - this speaks of doggy devotion and loyalty.
Time again to roam - Dogs are more likely to have a set time for their walks - much moreso than cats.
Also, dogs are more noted for their sense of smell and poor eyesight than cats and dogs use their tongues as an extra "sense" as well as to sweat through.

Then again, we may BOTH be completely off track!! LOL!

SARTOR - GET BACK HERE - WE ARE ALL DYING TO KNOW!!!!!!

Sweet Ms. Tree: Thank you for your kind information!! You are so right!! Dogs are certainly smarter and more loyal than cats. I have no clues, at this point. I have no idea who Romeo is...Tell us, Sartor, please!! Hugs. Starry.:snog: :snog:
