    She Wrote

    She wrote
    by candlelight
    though it was dim
    unsuccessfully quelling
    pervasive darkness, even as
her notepad glowed pale and narrow
    in the flickering flame
    she wrote
    though her hand trembled
    arthritic and painful
    slowly carving stubborn letters
    into wisdom
    remembering lessons
    learned at her mama’s knee
    she wrote
    through war, then famine
    guns stuttering sharply
    dried bread and water
    flinching and hungry
    while her mind swirled
    a solid cacaphony
    a scream
    trapped by ravages of time
    and hurt
    unending days spent healing
    damaged soldiers
    wrote themselves in stone
    on her brain
    an epitaph
    she wrote
    cathartic
    page by page
    she wrote.

wow.. i can sense the history in this...
and could definitly feel the endless need to express through your character here...
i am sure that such a person back then has had a chance to be truely seen for what she was worth
everyone has once recieved the respect that they truely deserve... but it doesnt always last like we wish it would...
    well done hun! :)

    Dear Ms Nomad,

:wow::wow::bravothanx: I am so serious here. This is brilliant!!!! This poem is classic and unforgettable. Yes, there is much history here, and please do turn this into a series. I felt the history, the strain, the memories.....I am speechless actually, and what I wrote here still does not do your poem justice. Incredible write.....I cannot wait to read more.......

Therese ... such an intense human story of victory and strength thru hard times .. I cried ...these lines made me .....

but i dont see where she was unsuccessfull at quelling the darkness .. she did coz she wrote till da very end ... I think this is a poets poem ... we write dont we ? thru pain , joy , suffering and fun .. we all write .. Im gonna take this out , frame it and place it on my bedside table so that im reminded that thru all in life whether i kan do anything or not i can write ....... i love this ..Chester

Jon...THANKS SO MUCH for your wonderful comment! The darkness I spoke of probably needed explanation...she was sitting in a darkened room because of wartime (in my mind) not a darkness of the soul or the psyche, although that could well have been there, but not for this strong lady! Thanks again and love...hope u are well. :huggles:

:wow: Another EXCELLENT poem MS N - kinda puts me in mind of "Diary of Anne Frank" but I KNOW this poem is on a different level entirely --- Reminds me of the other day = My life.... Trying to be incogNegro - the absense of love like missing an entire front grill.

Didn't have anything else to do - So I WROTE!

Powerful poem MS N --- I can totally relate to finding the Muse aka Madam Poesy in the most impossibly horrid situations ever --- It's like you're saying the pad & pen is a lifeline of sorts!

    So appreciate these lines:

Beautiful piece - speaks of having COURAGE through shitty shitty bang bang times.... Perseverence! Your poem speaks of having the courage to persevere!

A Fabulous write - I do wonder though - What inspired this poem?
At anyrate - thanx for the sharing!

    Jacquii.

indeed... this was a powerful description of the need to write... no matter what happens around you.., no matter how terrible, how chaotic, the need to write is never superceded.. in fact, it is made stronger... this is an excellent glimpse into a positive compulsion.... i love it..

BP - Thank you for reading my poem and responding with such insightful comments...yes, the need to write is overpowering at times, and also sometimes ALL that you have left when everything else is gone, or going...:kicking:

Thank you so much Mysty...I feel that now more than ever, especially since I think I'm getting overworked and stumped. I used to write absolutely every day, whenever I wanted...now..I want to write, I start to write, then it meanders off into nothing....SO frustrating! I wish I was like this lady I wrote about.

I appreciate the encouraging comments, Mysty!
