The TETRACTYS, a poetic form invented by Ray Stebbing, is a five-line syllabic verse form. Each verse should express a complete thought in 20 syllables, with line counts: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 10.

    Examples 1 & 2 by Ray Stebbing

    Fat Man Walking

    Bulk
    teeters
    gracefully
    on tiny feet -

as any ballerina, light and neat

    ----
    ----

    In a summer garden

    Leaves
    lift green
    over grass,
    granting cool shade
in which to read when, rarely, the sun shines.

Cacophony shatters calm; birdsong is drowned,
    thoughts are scattered
    murderous
    notions
    burn.
