With arms outstretched towards the sun
    All-Hallowed is his name,
the tree that took the time to look
    beyond all hardship and pain.

    His branches may have fallen
and his roots are so sore
    from holding on so dearly
    to Mother Earth's core,

    but with arms protruding
    and leaves that are falling
    he gestures
    towards the sun

    through which he is remade.

Yes indeed it is a lovely piece Morning Star
So somber the tone, I half-expected this to be a bit of a melancholy piece, but not so.

The last 2 stanzas take the piece to a more optimistic place, "with arms protruding...he gestures towards the sun through which he is remade." Such a perfect circle of life = Rejoice indeed!

    Thanks for the share!

We have many trees on our ground especially in the back yard. We just cut down an old pine this fall because it had finally died. It and the maple beside it had always caught my attention because of the way the branches wove together making a canopy thick enough and low enough it would be difficult to see me but I'd never really stayed under them.

It was hard telling that behemoth goodbye. I know, I know, what was I smoking at the time? Umm...don't smoke, lol. It just seemed like a friend had passed away. We planted a seedling in its place.

Anyway. That's what this poem puts me in mind of. That old dead tree still reaching up toward the sun unable to use its life giving rays. Sad.

    Great write,
    Gail

Thank you Butchiesmom for sharing your love of trees, I understand your feelings. I get very bent-out-of-shape when the tree trimmers come to our complex. I feel a strong connection to trees too.
Would of replied sooner, but didn't get notified of your post.
    Anyway, thanks for your reply.
