    Turn and weep

    then sail south

    laugh with joy

    bow cutting waves

    lone star north

    steam, smoke, sail

    have all been this way

    dark eyes

the sea forces dark skin on us

and the sun adds the darker tones

    sometimes I am happy

    but then sometimes I'm blue

    the Arab sings

a girl calls from the shore

    and all the sailors answer

    sometimes your eyes

    or your voice

    I do remember

    "wheel hard a-starboard"

    the captain orders

"The Sloop John B" on the radio

    and the Beachboys

and the spray down my bare back

    glistens and dries
