    Widow’s Lament

These days are long and lonely,
But the evenings are much worse,
Sometimes I feel this time in life,
    Is just some evil curse.

So many years have come and gone,
    Since he has gone away,
And I remain alone at home,
    To spend each lonely day,

    There were those, surrounding me,
They said, “dear, we all care”,
They come no more, through my front door,
    And I’ve an empty chair.

    Tomorrow may be better,
One more day that I endure,
But I’ll be sad and lonely,
And the night, much worse for sure.

Last night I popped a bowl of corn,
I felt that he was there,
I saw him with my mind’s eye,
    Eating popcorn in his chair.

He told me then, “don’t worry dear”,
    I’m in a better place,
I do come home from time to time,
    To see your pretty face.

    I know your heartaches, you’re alone;
I know you’ve so much sorrow,
But I will hold your hand again,
    We’ll greet, some sweet tomorrow.

Liked this alot, it expresses some very sad-sweet sentiments.
Just wondering about the meter in:
    and thinking:
    There were those, surrounding me,
They said, “dear, we all do care”,

    Athlone,

That is why I placed the comma's in each spot. For a slight pause for the benefit of meter. Thanks for reading and responding.
    I appreciate it.
