Beauty/Truth: A Journal of Ekphrastic Poetry
Only submit ekphrastic poems (poems written in response to visual art). We do not charge any reading fees. All rights revert to the author upon publication. We will never alter the wording of accepted poetry, but we do reserve the right to edit biographies for content and length. Unsolicited submissions will usually be responded to in up to three months (but this timeframe can vary based on the volume of submissions).
Poetry Submission Guidelines
1. Submissions must be written in response to a single work of visual art. Please include the name of the artist and artwork being responded to with each submission.
2. Submit up to five poems at a time. All pages of poetry submitted should include the author's name and address somewhere on the page. We do not return poetry submissions, so please do not send originals.
3. A cover letter is required with all submissions. Cover letters should be no more than one page in length and should include contact information, a brief biography, and a list of previous publications.
4. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope with all correspondences (or for international submissions please include a self-addressed envelope and an International Reply Coupon [IRC]).
5. We do accept previously published works (as long as you have retained the rights to the poetry). But we do need to know where the work has appeared and when. Make sure that you provide the full bibliographic credit in your cover letter or on the poetry page itself.
6. Do not send simultaneous submissions.
7. Payment for accepted poetry is a contributor's copy and/or discounted subscription rates when funds allow.
8. For those who wish to submit via e-mail, please remember that the cover letter and the poems should all appear in the body of the e-mail; we will not open any e-mail attachments. You can expect a brief e-mail from us a few days after we receive your submission. If you do not receive a confirmation e-mail after a week, then your submission was probably snagged by our spam detectors. Please try to resubmit, and if you have repeated problems you may want to consider submitting via postal mail.
9. When submitting, please remember that we do not print images along with the poems. So make sure that your poem still makes sense and speaks for itself when the accompanying artwork is not present.
10. Submissions sent via e-mail should be sent to the following address:
submissions@beautytruthpoetry.com
with a subject line reading "Poetry Submission: Your Name."
11. Submissions sent via postal mail should be mailed to the following address:
