Identity Theory (Call For Submissions)

Guidelines for Poetry Submissions

Identity Theory publishes poetry by new and established poets. There are no restrictions on style or content, but submissions should be no longer than three typewritten pages. Our online literary magazine considers all submissions but is unable to pay for accepted poetry. Rights, however, remain with the poet upon publication.

TO SUBMIT POETRY FOR CONSIDERATION, PLEASE NOTE:

1. Previously published poetry (print or online) is not accepted.
2. Include your name, address, phone number and e-mail address with your submission. A four-line biographical statement, including any publishing credits, also is requested.
3. Paste your submission into the body of your e-mail (no attachments), and send your poetry to poetry@identitytheory.com.

Guidelines for Fiction Submissions

Identity Theory publishes fiction from new and up-and-coming writers, with special attention paid to promoting strong literary voices.

While our Web-based wonderland doesn't afford us the income to compensate authors for accepted pieces, we put our value to you by carefully reading every submission, replying with constructive comments, and publishing the very best material we receive, posted promptly on Identity Theory, an established literary site viewed by thousands of readers every day.

When you submit your fiction piece for consideration, you should:

1. Let us know if the piece has been published elsewhere, including online.
2. Bear in mind that fiction published on Identity Theory has traditionally not been longer than 4,000 words and has rarely included genre fiction.
3. Include a short author biography (50-100 words), including publishing credits.
4. Paste your submission into the body of an e-mail. No attachments will be opened.
5. Send your contribution to Andrew Whitacre at fiction@identitytheory.com.

Submission Guidelines for Identity Theory Nonfiction

Identity Theory’s new nonfiction section is devoted to creative work that is as thoughtful as it is vivid. We are especially interested narrative nonfiction and lyric essays. Take us someplace we haven’t been before, show us something that is not as it seems, guide us with an intelligent heart.

While we cannot compensate authors for accepted pieces, we put our value to you by carefully reading every submission, replying with constructive comments, and publishing the very best material we receive, posted promptly on Identity Theory, an established literary site viewed by thousands of readers every day.

When you submit your nonfiction piece for consideration, please:

1. Write “Submission:” and the title of your piece in the subject line of your email.
2. Let us know if the piece has been published elsewhere, including online.
3. Bear in mind length should suit the medium—we rarely publish pieces longer than 4000 words and welcome short pieces between 1000 and 1500 words.
4. Include a short author biography (50–100 words), including publishing credits.
5. Paste your submission into the body of an e-mail and as a Microsoft Word attachment.

Please send your submissions to Mara Naselli at mara@identitytheory.com. We are eager to read your work!

Guidelines for Social Justice Submissions

Identity Theory is looking for new perspectives and discussion on important world events. While, as with other submissions, we are not able to pay for accepted manuscripts, we will read all submitted materials, reply with productive feedback, and publish the best material we receive.

To submit a piece for consideration, please follow these guidelines:

1. Keep your submission to less than 4,000 words.
2. Include with your work a brief bio (50-100 words)
3. Please place your submission in the body of your email (ie: no attachments).

Send your submission to social@identitytheory.com.

We are looking for people with a keen and timely interest in justice and an ability to succeed in expressing concepts and ideas clearly to readers.
