DO YOU ACCEPT UNSOLICITED SUBMISSIONS? - Yes, we are now accepting submissions for upcoming issues. We are interested in original artwork, cartoons, photography, essays, short stories, poetry and articles for possible publication. We especially want material on writing and the writing life, but also like food & garden articles, outdoors, travel, leisure activities. Short stories can be on virtually any subject. We like unusual stories with a twist at the end. Surprise us!
DO YOU PUBLISH WORK IN COLOR? - Yes. We reserve the back cover and some inside pages to feature artists, photographers and some poems in full color. (See sample back cover page.) We also use color artwork and photography on our covers.
HOW SHOULD I SEND MY SUBMISSIONS? Email submissions are preferred and should be sent to:
MississippiCrow@msn.com. Submissions MUST include your full name and postal mailing address. Please DO NOT send a submission in the body of the email, use an attachment in WORD or Publisher. Accepted material will receive a response within two weeks to 30 days. Writers submitting via email accept and understand that they will not receive an editor’s proof (we copy and paste from your document). All submissions indicate permission to publish. We reserve the right to remove from our publication line up, any previously accepted material for any reason.
DO YOU ACCEPT ARTWORK OR CARTOONS? - Yes, we welcome black and white artwork and cartoons for the inside of the magazine. We also accept color artwork for our front or back cover. Computer generated artwork is accepted also. Please contact the editor to determine the proper format to use:

CAN I WRITE A LETTER TO THE EDITOR? - Yes. Letters to the editor become the property of the magazine and are assumed intended for publication in whole or in part (unless otherwise requested), and may be used for such purposes.
HOW DO YOU PAY ME FOR MY WORK? - You will receive 1 free PDF copy of the issue in which your work appears. Print copies may be purchased by following the link for the issue desired (see the Buy Copies tab).
CAN I SUBSCRIBE OR BUY COPIES? - Since converting to Print on Demand technology (POD), we are no longer taking formal subscriptions and fulfilling them inhouse. However, links to purchase all issues can be found on the About Us tab on this website.
SIMULTANEOUS SUBMISSIONS ARE ACCEPTED, but please make us aware of that fact and notify us ASAP if the piece has been accepted elsewhere.
WE DO ACCEPT PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED MATERIAL, however, we must be provided with the name of the publication in which it first appeared so we can give proper credit. Also, we strictly require that all submissions be the original work of the contributing authors and accept no responsibility for plagiarism on the part of a contributor. All prices, policies and fees are subject to change without notice.
COMMENTS: We work with a six-month lead time for strongly seasonal material. Send Christmas and blizzard material in June and July, summer material in January and February and so on. Copyright reverts to the individual authors upon publication. Work accepted may be edited for clarity and length. We require one-time paper and electronic rights and we publish several sample pages of each issue on this website. Your material may be seen here as well as in the print magazine.
TYPO AND ERROR POLICY: We follow the generally accepted industry standard as referenced in the New York Public Library’s Writer’s Guide to Style and Usage. We cannot reproduce material in its entirety. We will print an errata/erratum notice in a subsequent issue.
THE MISSISSIPPI CROW MAGAZINE WILL CHOOSE UP TO SIX POETIC PIECES PUBLISHED IN OUR PAGES DURING THE CALENDAR YEAR 2007 TO BE NOMINATED FOR THE PRESTIGIOUS, PUSHCART PRIZE.
